Crescent City Police Department

This program provides the community with a confidential method to determine if someone you love or someone working for you is using illegal drugs in your home or business.

This is a free drug detection service for parents and business owners.  This is the first municipal program of its type and it is only one tool available for parents and business owners to combat the problem of illegal drug use in our community.  This program can protect you, your family or your business with a discreet inspection by a trained and certified police K-9 team.  Our K-9 teams can detect such drugs as Marijuana, Cocaine, Heroin, Ecstasy, Methamphetamine, and Xanax.

This service is discreet and non-confrontational.  Any drug or drug paraphernalia found will be removed and disposed of by the K-9 handler.

Parents and Guardians concerned with possible drugs in the home.

This service offers parents and guardians an immediate notice of any potential life-threatening drug activity inside the home.  This is a tool for parental guidance and a way to safe guard your children.

Parent and Guardians may ask;

Do I really need this service? The answer; research indicates that 3 out of 4 kids who try Marijuana will experiment with more addictive, life-threatening drugs.

Isn’t breaching my children’s trust as bad as them using drugs?  The answer; if your child denies the use of drugs and a search proves otherwise; who has breached whose trust?  Remember, this is a discreet service.

How reliable is the service?  The answer; this service will give you a snap-shot in time identifying any drugs, drug paraphernalia or residue on clothing and other material handled by drug exposed hands in the location at that moment.

Dogs Detecting Drugs Discretely

Police Chief, Douglas Plack says “Drug abuse in our community cannot be effectively combated as a law enforcement issue only.  Success will only come with a partnership effort by parents, business owners and educators.”

What do I do if I suspect drug use?

Just contact the Crescent City Police Department at 707-464-2133 and ask for the K-9 Supervisor to schedule an appointment.   The officer will review the process with you provide you with a contract for services and arrange the inspection at your convenience.

The Crescent City Police Department’s K-9 Program is funded by Community donations.  This Drug Detection Service is provided free of charge but we request financial assistance whenever possible.  Your continued support makes this service available to your friends and family

For the Business Owner/Operator:

The Substance Abuse and Metal Health Services Administration reported that approximately 77% of illicit drug users in the United States are employed.  They further indicated that approximately 67% of all work related accidents are the direct result of substance abuse.  Accidents, lost time and employee hiring all cost the business owner.

While drug testing options are viable for hiring and targeted intervention procedures, using drug detection dogs is a less invasive method of eradicating drugs from the workplace.  Employers, by law, must make every effort to maintain a drug-free workplace.  This program gives you a very reliable, discreet method of protecting your business.  As a business owner, you will want to schedule to have the inspection at a time when no employees are on site so the results of the inspection can be kept private.
