WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT SUPERVISOR

(Full-Time)

RESPONSIBILITIES:   Supervises and performs the daily operations and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant and related facilities, and performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

EDUCATION:  A high school diploma or equivalent; successful completion of extensive coursework related to wastewater operations and laboratory analyses.

EXPERIENCE:   Three years of supervisory experience in a wastewater treatment plant as a Grade III Operator.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

Supervises and directs the daily operations, maintenance and repairs of the wastewater treatment plant, collection system lift stations, and related facilities; supervises and directs the work load of plant operators; keeps accurate data and prepares all required regulatory reports in a timely manner; prepares department budget; responsible for the operation of the wastewater facilities in compliance with NPDES permit; maintains pre-treatment program and industrial waste program and conducts inspections.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Superior knowledge and understanding of wastewater treatment plant processes and operations; safety practices and procedures; supervisory and training principles and practices; pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regulations; laboratory procedures for analyses of wastewater and water; computer data recordkeeping; maintain and operate SCADA control systems; knowledge and understanding of Membrane Bio-Reactors (MBRs) and UV disinfection; knowledge and understanding of California health laws related to recycled water; troubleshoot and correct process malfunctions; troubleshoot PLC circuits; communicate effectively in both oral and written form in the English language; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; read and interpret mechanical drawings, plans and specifications; work in an environment that requires logical reasoning in the diagnosing and troubleshooting of equipment and controls.

LICENSE:  Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License, or equivalent if a resident of another state.   Must maintain a license in compliance with the City’s employee driving standards. 

CERTIFICATIONS:  Possession of a valid Grade III California Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board, and the ability to obtain a valid Grade IV California Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator certificate within 24 months of appointment; the ability to obtain a valid Grade T-2 California Water Treatment Operator certificate issued by the State Department of health Services within 18 months of appointment.

Salary and Benefits

Salary Range:  $27.15 - $33.00/hour. 

Retirement – PERS 2.5% @ 55.   The City pays the 8% employee contribution; reported EPMC.   

Health – The City provides a $1450/month flexible spending account to apply towards health benefits, including medical, dental, vision, air ambulance, long-term disability, and life insurance.

Vacation Leave – Vacation is accrued at 4 hours biweekly upon employment and increases with time in service. There is an accumulation limit.
