ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT & RECREATION ASSISTANT

$18.35 - $23.42 Hourly

(This is a part-time position)

There is one position available in the classification of Economic Development & Recreation Assistant for the City of Crescent City Economic Development & Recreation Department.

This position is open until filled.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision, the Economic Development & Recreation Assistant classification is a part-time position that assists both the Grants Coordinator and the Director of Recreation and Events Coordinator with community outreach & engagement, grant reporting, data collection, and event/program planning at various sites, including but not limited to: parks, schools, recreational facilities and administrative offices. This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Assists with project management, including budgeting, purchasing, and reporting requirements; Assists with preparation and assembly of grant applications; Assembles grant billing documents; Serves as a liaison between the City and local business owners; Connects businesses to local resources; Provides guidance to businesses to encourage participation and coordination during tourist season, special events, and holidays; Conducts and guides Economic Development & Recreational activities such events, community outreach, committee meetings, and group activities; Analyze projects to create reports used to develop best practices; Collects and organizes data on local business statistics and travel/tourism trends; Assists with marketing strategies and project design for City projects, economic development efforts, community outreach, and special events; Updates websites and social media platforms to provide current and relevant information to the public; Assists in the instruction of volunteers and any subordinate staff in in-service training and department activities. Performs a variety of reception, clerical and administrative tasks as necessitated by the assignment; Maintains order and assists in promotion and adherence of City and Departmental rules, regulations and policies.

Knowledge of: General office practices and how to use common office equipment; Microsoft applications including PowerPoint, Word, and Excel; Social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram.

Ability to: Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Work after hours and occasionally on weekends; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work; Develop good public relations skills including a friendly, courteous and enthusiastic attitude. Perform assigned tasks independently without close supervision; Multitask while completing assignments with great attention to detail; Use English effectively to communicate in person, over the telephone, and in writing; Work cooperatively with other departments, City officials, outside agencies and the public.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education:    High School Diploma, GED, HiSET, or equivalent is required.

Experience: One year’s experience of varied clerical support, preferably with a government agency. Work involving community engagement and/or organizing, and administrative work is desirable.

License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles, or equivalent if a resident of another state. Must have and maintain a license which is insurable under the current City insurance policy.      

Wage and Benefits

Hourly Wage -- $18.35 - $23.42       

BENEFITS: 40 hours of sick leave per fiscal year and participation in 457(b) plan.
