LIFEGUARD

RESPONSIBILITIES: The primary responsibility of a lifeguard is to ensure the safety of patrons at all times and to provide exceptional customer service to our community. The Lifeguard position is also responsible for assisting with and performing routine maintenance and cleaning at Fred Endert Municipal Pool.

Wage and Benefits

Hourly Wage -- $17.15 - $17.65       

APPLICATION PROCESS: A City of Crescent City application must be received in the Administration Department by 5:00 p.m. on the final filing date. Application materials are available at City Hall on the Job Board or on the City’s website at www.crescentcity.org.

FINAL FILING DATE: 5:00 PM, Friday, June 5, 2026

The City reserves the right to extend the filing deadline as necessary.

BENEFITS: 40 hours of sick leave per fiscal year and participation in 457(b) plan.

THE SELECTION PROCESS may consist of a written exam, an oral interview and a timed swim.  Subsequent to a job offer and prior to being hired, a candidate must successfully pass a medical examination, drug screen, DMV review, fingerprint and background check. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Minimum Age:    Must be 15 years or older
  • Certifications: Possession of StarGuard Elite certifications, or equivalent certifications which meet Emergency Medical Systems Authority standards in:
    • Lifeguard Training
    • CPR for the Professional Rescuer
  • Ability to:     Meet standards set by American Red Cross or equivalent; swim 500 yards in 12 minutes or less; swim 50 yards in 45 seconds or less; requires frequent swimming, sitting, standing, walking; sufficient strength to rescue students/swimmers in distress. Make good judgement, have tact, a positive attitude, and the ability to react quickly and appropriately in an emergency situation; Effectively educate patrons and enforce all rules and regulations of the facility; develop good public relations skills, including a friendly, courteous and enthusiastic attitude; Must maintain the ability to continue learning and improving their professional and technical skills including a variety of in-service training for safety, customer service, etc; Keep certificates up to date by attending recertification classes annually; Use a computer, tablet, cellular phone in daily work activities; Have flexibility within their work schedule.
  • Essential Functions / Knowledge and Skills:     Prevent accidents and minimize or eliminate hazardous situations; Administer any emergency first-aid needed by the victim of an accident; Communicate with other lifeguards and facility staff the need for additional assistance and/or equipment; Complete all required records and reports on schedule and submit them to the Designated Head Lifeguard; Perform cashier duties when needed; Perform various pool maintenance and custodial tasks; Knowledge of facility rules and regulations, staff chain of command, characteristics of the aquatic facility.
